Faigle hired as media coordinator for AU athletics

AU announced on Sept. 9 that it has hired former WRDW sports director Kevin Faigle as the athletics communications and media coordinator, a new position on campus.
Faigle had been working for AU’s Division of Communications and Marketing after his stint at WRDW..
“I’ll be working hand in hand with Kadija Dickens (director of athletic media relations),” he said. “My role is to do whatever we can to get the word about what we’re doing out to the public, out to students, out to the university and beyond.”
Dickens is in her fourth year in her role. Her job is extremely stressful, and most universities have more than one person doing sports media relations. That’s why Faigle has been hired.
“In reality, this is definitely at minimum a two-person job because there are so many different aspects that go into it, and you have the social media component on top of all of that,” he said. “It’ll help to free her up on some other things, and I’ll focus on where my strengths are.”
At DCM, Faigle served as senior communications and media coordinator. He was charged with bringing more attention to the university.
“I’ve always been an athletics guy,” he said. “I’ve served in sports several times before, and eventually I always knew that I wanted to get back into sports and this came about, and I was like this is a good chance to do it. This is up my alley more than anything else.”
Prior to having the first job at AU, Faigle worked for WRDW for 14 years as sports director. His time there included covering AU’s three national championships in men’s golf. He also has covered the Super Bowl, 14 Masters tournaments and many national college football games, including one of Georgia’s national championship runs.
Since he has worked in the sports media, Faigle knows how to get more stories in the spotlight and that’s what he strives to do with Jaguar athletes.
“There’s a lot more stories to be told of our student-athletes and that’s one of my goals—to write more stories and use the video component,” he said. “We’re in a video world, so we’re going to go full tilt ahead with more video as well.”
Faigle said he is thankful for the chance to help in athletics.
“I thank everybody that has given me the opportunity, it doesn’t matter what the opportunity is, if someone gives you such an opportunity you have to be thankful for that. You always need to be grateful for the ones that help you get to where you want to go so I am certainly grateful.”
AU men’s basketball Coach Dip Metress thinks that this will impact the athletes in a healthy way.
“Kevin’s experience will enhance us is so many ways,” Metress said. “ He will open avenues that will benefit our student-athletes.”
