Falling for fall: A season of fashion, festivities and friendships at Augusta University

Fall is a seasonal favorite for many college students. With the changing weather comes new fashion choices, festive activities like pumpkin carving and thrilling events such as football games.

While fall may look a bit different at Augusta University compared to other cities, states or counties where students are from, there are plenty of exciting aspects of the season that are getting students excited for the new season.

The transition from the sweltering heat of Georgia summers to cooler weather is often eagerly anticipated by students. The intense heat and high humidity of Georgia’s summer can make outdoor activities less enjoyable and sometimes even uncomfortable. Fall weather offers a sense of relief for students to spend more time outside and enjoy their favorite activities once again.

“I would say my favorite thing about the fall is the cooler weather. I’m able to walk outside longer and I get to start wearing my favorite light sweaters that have been stuck in storage all summer,” said Zahriyah Denson, a graduate student at Augusta University.

As Denson mentioned, students also look forward to being able to wear their cozy and warm attire. Sweaters, hoodies and flannels become wardrobe staples, offering not only warmth but also a sense of relaxation that summer clothes simply could not provide. As temperatures drop, students can indulge in cozier, more tactile clothing that adds both comfort and style to their daily lives.

“One of my favorite things about fall is definitely the weather being the best it is all year. You can wear sweaters but you don’t have to wear a coat,” said Breanah McGroggan, a sophomore at Augusta University.

Fall on a college campus is more than just a change in the weather, it’s also a season that creates a greater sense of friendship and community among students. This time of year is marked by a variety of activities and traditions that bring people together, creating opportunities for connection and friendship.

On campus students can participate in activities such as fall festivals, intramural sports and engage with cultural and campus clubs. Outside of campus, students can connect with each other through activities like picnics, bonfires, football games, pumpkin carving, apple picking and so much more.

“There’s almost nothing better than reading outside near the people I love,” said Amara Maxwell, a freshman at Augusta University.

With fall comes holidays that many students eagerly anticipate, and Halloween is a standout favorite. As a major fall staple, Halloween brings opportunities for trips to Halloween stores, festive parties, costume contests, and haunted house tours.

“The thing I look forward to the most is definitely Halloween,” added McGroggan.

Halloween traditions provide students with a chance to connect with each other while enjoying the holiday together, strengthening friendships and adding to the overall excitement of the season.

The blend of creativity, excitement, and social interaction transforms fall from merely a change in weather into a lively and enjoyable season. As students immerse themselves in the festivities, they find joy not only in the seasonal celebrations but also in the lasting friendships and memories they create. This mix of engaging activities and meaningful connections makes fall a favorite time of year.
