Augusta University’s Student Life and Engagement celebrated the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with a Friendsgiving meal Tuesday, Nov. 9.

This event was held to celebrate Augusta University’s core values with all staff members and students as part of Values Week.

AU’s six institutional core values are collegiality, compassion, excellence, inclusion, leadership and integrity. Values Week included events for staff and students including the Undergraduate Research Fair, Jag Pride Day and the International Festival.

AU senior Natalia Yoko participated in the activities, which she said were unifying for the student body.

“It’s really cool to see all of the students come together and spend time with one another like a family,” said Natalia.

Friendsgiving is a blend of friends and Thanksgiving to come together and celebrate one another, just as you would with family. Augusta University prides itself on the values of treating each other as a family and being a part of the Jaguar family.

“Being a part of the Jaguar family and seeing how staff and students treat one another, not only during values week but the entire year, makes me so proud to be a Jag,” said Yoko.

The first 300 students to attend were given a full plate of Thanksgiving food provided by Fat Man’s Café. Their plates were full of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans and other traditional sides.

All students were welcome to join between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Douglas Barnard Amphitheater, which was covered with tables for students to enjoy their food while listening to a live band sing today’s hits.

Student Life and Engagement also had interactive booths for students to check out how to get involved in campus life. Behind the amphitheater, there were games for students to enjoy between classes and lunch.
