Harlem Java House is a quiet, small-town coffee shop

By Sabrina Nacci |ContributorAbout thirty minutes west of downtown Augusta, you can find a small-town coffee shop called the Harlem Java House, located at 211 N. Louisville St. in Suite A.Cheaper than most franchises, this Harlem restaurant has a large variety of coffees and desserts for everyone to enjoy. My drink came to $5 plus a $1 tip.The coffee shop has tables, couches and comfy chairs where guests can sit down and relax while enjoying their beverages and food. Music was playing in the background giving a very relaxed environment for its guests. The setting was very clean and organized with sections for serving, preparing food, sitting areas. They had merchandise on sale against the wall near the cashier and food. The restaurant hosts a variety of events, such as Open Mic Night, guitar lessons or craft days from local artists. The restaurants and events are advertised on social media, in the restaurant and by word of mouth. Many locals in Harlem also advertise their own businesses in the shop. The owners have a stand dedicated to promoting local businesses. When I went there, I tried the mocha frappe with whip cream on top, and it was the perfect addition to my small study session and then walk around town on a hot day.Since it was in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of the week, I was the only guest in the coffee shop along with the employee, but she was very attentive and quickly helped me.Harlem Java House is open Monday through Friday 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.; on Saturday, it is open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m; and on Sunday, it is open 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
