It marked the second time this season she has been so honored. She also was track athlete of the week back in April.Weathers established a school record on the track on April 1 at the Trojan Challenge in Mount Olive. Weathers won the 5,000 meters with an AU-best time of 17:23.20. She won that race by more than two minutes. The distance runner would go on to win the conference title in the same event on April 20 in the Daytona Beach, Fla. She just missed making the qualifying time for the NCAA nationals. Nonetheless, Weathers made all-regional along with teammate Kiana Smith, a heptathlete.Growing up, Weathers didn’t want to be a runner. However, her cousin suggested in middle school that she should because she was a good runner. Weathers wanted to be a normal student instead of being an athlete, but she decided to go through with it after her cousin told the cross country coach about her.Being on the cross country team made her more social, and she fell in love with the sport. Weathers, a communication major, pushes herself at every practice and meet. Her family is her biggest supporter. Her mother and father attend every track meet. They are her stress relievers, and her family supports the whole team. She went to an outstanding career at Winder-Barrow High School running the 1,600 and 3,200. In the latter, Weathers was third in the state in 6-A her senior year. She also took part in cross country and won the regional title as a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, she was honorable mention all-area. As a senior, she finished fourth in the state, second in the regional and was named all-area by the Athens Banner-Herald.Weathers is very superstitious; she likes to repeat the exact same thing she did for a previous race. If she gets great results in her last meet, she will eat the same food she had for the previous race the night before. Also, she will wear the exact same outfit as the previous race, and think the same as the previous race. This season she has been eating the Chick-fil-A market salad with a grilled cool wrap before every single race and feels as though it helps her when racing. She stays motivated by always wanting to get a better time, and she feels that she is closest to God when she is running. The Jaguar runner said she calls on the Lord's name a lot when running because running is painful; however, she wants to be able to push past the pain and direct her thoughts by seeking Him throughout her troubles. She believes that it is God's strength that helps her get through every race, and she is willing to test her faith by pushing herself every time.As a freshman, she ran in 11 events across six meets, competed in the 1,500, the 5,000 and in the 4x400 relay. Her best race was a second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:58.73, at the Savannah State Eyeopener. She recorded five top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes and won the Roscoe Williams female freshman of the year Award at the AU Athletics Awards Banquet. In the fall, she keeps on the same uniform but runs on the AU women's cross country team. She won several events last fall before sustaining an injury. She still was able to finish fifth in the PBC championship and earn all-conference honors.
