By Megan Johnson |ContributorThe Augusta University women’s golf team finished in third place overall on Oct. 23 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. It was AU's best finish of the season. The team shot an 18-under-par 846 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Nevada and posted the lowest 54-hole total in university history.Charlotte Alran fired a final-round 65 for the lowest single-round score ever for the Jaguars. Alran, who is from Lausanne, Switzerland, finished the 54-hole tournament tied for third at 10 under par. She had shot 66 in the second round.Seniors Maggie Ashmore and Cecilia Diez-Moliner, juniors Alran and Linda Lundqvist, and freshman Natalia Yoko (from Indonesia) competed in the Las Vegas tourney.Ashmore and Diez-Moliner tied for eighth at 6 under par. Lundqvist tied for 43rd. This was Yoko’s first collegiate event, and she finished T68 shooting a 76 Sunday, 78 Monday and 73 Tuesday.In the tournament the Lady Jaguars competed against Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada-Reno, Northern Arizona, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, Tulsa, California-Irvine, California-Riverside and host UNLV.Oregon State won the tournament with 26-under-par total. Tulsa took second (-22), AU took third (-18), Long Beach took fourth (-8) and Idaho finished fifth (-7).The Jaguars finished the fall section of their schedule with the Las Vegas tourney and now will take a break. Coach Carolina Hegg's team will return to action Feb. 10-12 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, at Rio Mar Country Club. Hegg is a Purdue graduate.
