Sports roundup: Iowa State golfer murdered by homeless man

Staff report |Police in Ames, Iowa, charged a 22-year-old man with first-degree murder after the body of former Iowa State golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena was found at the Coldwater Links Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 17. Golfers found a golf bag with no one around it. Later, they found Arozamena’s body and determined she had been assaulted. The Spaniard, who was playing a solo round, was the reigning Big 12 champion and ISU female athlete of the year. Collin Daniel Richards, 22, was on $5 million bond. Richards was homeless and living in a tent in the nearby Squaw River. Barquin Arozamena had won the won the European Ladies Amateur title earlier in the year in Slovakia and qualified for the U.S. Women's Open. In other sports news:
