Coaches pick AU men to repeat as Peach Belt cross country champion

By Leeroy Francis |Sports EditorThe 2018 Augusta University men’s cross country team hopes to repeat its 2017 Peach Belt Conference Championship, and the conference coaches think they will.The AU men's cross-country team, in a poll of the league's head coaches, was voted first overall in the 2018 Peach Belt Conference preseason poll.AU has finished no worse than fourth in the PBC over the past seven years. The Jaguars have won the PBC championship three times. AU also finished third at the NCAA Regionals in 2017 and advanced to the NCAA National finals for only their second time in school history last season.For 2018, Augusta will have a much different look this season, as the coaching staff welcomes nine incoming freshmen."We are excited to host not only a home meet this fall, but also the Peach Belt Championships," AU Coach Adam Ward said. "Two great opportunities for local fans and spectators to come see our men and women compete. Redcliffe Plantation is a gorgeous venue.”Senior Noah Hulett returns after finishing eighth in the PBC last year. Hulett is joined by Hunter Kimball and Jacob Poston, who return for their sophomore seasons after finishing last season making the All-Peach Belt team.The Jaguars start their season on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by the University of Georgia, in Athens. For more information contact Leeroy Francis at lfrancis@augusta.edu
