Jags' Everett finishes third round tied for third entering stroke play final

By Leeroy Francis Jr. |Staff WriterSenior Broc Everett finished the third round of the NCAA National Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., in a tie for third place in the 156-man field with a third straight 70.Meanwhile, AU finished 29th in the team competition."The fairways are wide and have big landing areas, but it's just outside of the landing areas—there is thick brush. It's really kind of a mental trick," Everett said of the Karsten Creek course. "You've got so much room out there and you just gotta' tell yourself there's a huge area to play at and make a smooth swing at it and keep it in play. That's been the key all week, trying to keep it in between the tree lines."Everett is currently only three shots back of leader Bryson Nimmer of Clemson. Nimmer is at 9 under par. Between Everett and Nimmer are Brandon Mancheno of Auburn (-7), Doug Ghim of Texas (-6) and Ivan Ramiirez of Texas Tech (-6)For the third-straight day, the current course record would not last a full day, as No. 28 Duke posted a 12-under 276 to jump to the top of the leaderboard. The Blue Devils are at 10 under par, while tournament host No. 1 Oklahoma State is second at 7 under, No. 13 Texas Tech is third at 3 under, No. 4 Vanderbilt fourth at 2 over and No. 3 Oklahoma fifth at 4 over.Augusta finished 29th with a team score of 904 (40 over par)After play was completed on Sunday, the field of 30 teams was cut to the top 15 and the top nine individuals not on an advancing team. The remaining teams and players continue to Monday. That includes AU's Everett.Everett is in position at an individual national championship title. The West Des Moines, Iowa, product led the Jaguars in all three rounds this weekend and fired his third straight 2 under par to hold his spot near the top of the leaderboard.AU Sophomore Gustav Andersson finished with a round-three 78, bringing his total to 11 over par and tied for 96th. Freshmen Alex Shead, Laken Hinton and Olof Gunnarsson all finished their first NCAA national championship Sunday. Gunnarsson finished 16 over par to take 134th, Hinton 19 over par for 141st  and Shead 29 over par for 150th.Augusta is only the second 12th seed ever from a regional to advance to the NCAA Championships.
