Women’s ministry on Augusta University campus kicks off with their annual event

Delight Ministries hosted their annual kickoff event on Wednesday, August 28.
The Christ-centered community for college girls gathered in the Douglas Barnard Amphitheater for fellowship and activities that included crafting their own bookmarks, painting, and making beaded bracelets.
With intentions for outreach and retention, Makayla Larsh is motivated to “step out and be bold” as Team Director.
“If God loves me so much that He’s going to seek me out, why should I hide my excitement and be scared to reach out to other girls,” she said.
When joining in the Fall of 2022, activities like dress-up days and speed dating sparked an increase in enthusiasm toward the ministry for her.
Additionally, it was seeing ‘God’s love’ within the community that prompted her to invest in her participation by applying for leadership in the ministry.
“Everybody’s just so welcoming,” said Sophomore Addy Coker who returned to the ministry for a second year.
Having a community of Christian girls is something intentionally sought out, especially for students who are new to campus. For many, a group like Delight wasn’t even available to them in high school, emphasizing the importance of keeping a strong faith in a new environment.
“I’m better with accountability around me. So just having people around me who believe in the same thing and being connected in a Christian group is better for me to keep my focus on God,” said Freshman Ariana Umberger.
Through attending conferences and meetings, the leadership team of Delight is ‘trained and equipped’ on how to help people when they’re struggling, according to Team Director Makayla.
“When school gets tough, just keep coming. Lean on us,” she said.
For Book Coordinator Samara Latibeaudiere, attending Delight weekly allowed her to create deeper friendships and a feeling of security in her position as a college student.
Upon receiving her leadership role in the ministry, her initial attendance encouraged her to stay disciplined, read her bible, and “act in a way that He would be proud of,” she said.
Delight meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the JSAC Ballroom for worship, book study, and small group conversations.
