AU women fall to Ga. Southern in match play event

The Augusta University women’s golf team lost 4-2 to Georgia Southern University Monday, Sept. 13. at Frederica Golf Club for The Match at Frederica at St. Simons Island.

This was the first tournament of the year for AU’s women’s team, and the only match play event the Jaguars will play all season.

Six Jaguars competed at the event: senior Natalia Yoko, juniors Olivia Patrow and Napabhach Boon-in, sophomore Mary Hunt Murray and freshmen Chloe Holder and Carroll Kennedy. 

Holder picked up the win for the Jaguars in her first event, defeating Karlee Vardas for the Eagles in 16 holes. 

AU got there second win with Carroll beating GSU’s Abby Newton in 18 holes 2-0. 

Patrow was defeated by Madison Heideman of GSU, who won in 15 holes. 

Murray was tied with GSU’s Alexandra Stevenson through 17 holes but dropped the match in final hole with a bogey. 

The Eagles won the last two matchups with Sarunchana Rattanasin defeating Boon-In of AU in 17 holes and Mia Kness defeating Yoko of the Jaguars in 16 holes. 

The Frederica Golf Club is a par-72, 6,172-yard course.

The Jaguars will next head to Knoxville, Tenn., at Cherokee Country Club for the Mercedes Benz Women’s Collegiate on Sept. 20-22.
