Dr. Russell T. Keen was voted as the finalist for the president of Augusta University on Thursday, June 6.
A Georgia Southern Alumnus, Keen is a native of the Augusta area and has worked in the university system for over two decades. Keen held several administrative positions while at Georgia Southern in his 13 years working there.
Keen is currently the executive vice president and chief of staff to current president Dr. Keel, whom is retiring in the coming weeks, marking the end of his nine year presidency and much longer career working in higher education and research.
According to the published press release by Jagwire, Keen said, “It is an immense privilege to be considered for this position, and I’m grateful to the board and Chancellor Perdue for their confidence in me.”
Keen adds, “My time on campus and in Augusta has prepared me for a seamless transition into this role, and I would be honored to continue the legacy of a president I consider a mentor. I’m wholeheartedly vested in advancing the university’s success through its current initiatives and into its next chapter.”
Keen also serves in the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Rotary Club of Augusta and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
Another board meeting will be occurring within the next few days to take action on the position.
