Student Government Association applications are open

Applications for AU’s undergraduate Student Government Association are now open and will close Friday, March 17 at 5 p.m.
The SGA was formed to represent, lead, unify and govern the student body of Augusta University and is composed of two bodies: the Senate, which are undergraduate students, and the House of Representatives, who are graduate. Both parties actively work to improve the quality of life for the student body.
Along with being the bridge between students and administration, the SGA allocates money to all registered student organizations, makes policy changes on behalf of the student body and is currently working on developing a new scholarship system.
“This year SGA has worked to implement reflection spaces, work on parking issues, and we are working to revitalize our processes to better support students,” said SGA President Dee Mallory.
Mallory sent out a mass email earlier this week to notify students that the undergraduate applications were available and encouraged students to apply if interested.
“Students should get involved in student government because it is their most proactive way to introduce and implement change on our campus.,” Mallory said. “The SGA faces the real issues student face on campus, and we work diligently with our campus partners to produce legislation that changes these polices to better the student experience.”
SGA Senate meetings are held twice a month at the JSAC Coffeehouse, and all meetings are open to Augusta University students.
“Students can become involved in campus life by coming to SGA meetings, and lobby for various issues students face. This is the most impactful way for students to push the SGA legislature to focus in on key issues and make policy changes,” Mallory added.
