Augusta University baseball defeats Coker, extends winning streak to six games

The Augusta University baseball team defeated the Coker Cobras on Wednesday, March 15, by a score of 8-4.

The win extended AU’s win streak to six games. The Jaguars had swept Claflin over the weekend after a mid-week sweep of the College of Saint Rose last week.

The Jaguars (11-10, 6-6) struck early in the bottom of the first inning. After Kyle Lodise led off for Augusta with a single, and he quickly stole second base. Harrison Aulds singled through the left side to score Lodise.

Aulds got his second RBI on a single to center that scored Koby Ayala in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, Ayala had an RBI double to the right side that scored Jared Martin.

Coker (10-16) finally got things started in the fifth. Nick Leonard homered to left field, bringing him and Donavan Frayer around the bases. The score was 3-2

Answering back in the sixth, Kyle LaRoche had a solo shot, and Ayala brought in two more runs for the Jaguars with a single to right field. Joe Saccente and Parker Ingram scored.

In the seventh, the Cobra’s Ashby Vining had a two-RBI double to score Leonard and Cameron Ferrell.

Augusta tapped off their win in the eighth as a Lodise single through the left side scored J. Ben Haynes.

Augusta totaled 15 hits on the day. Ayala and LaRoche led for the Jaguars with three hits each. Ayala led with three RBIs.

Logan Howell got the win for the Jaguars (1-0). He threw five innings, only allowing two earned runs. Britt Kelly pitched the last two inning. Kelly gave up a single hit and no runs.

The Jaguars will face their PBC opponent, Georgia College, in Milledgeville this weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 18, at 1 p.m., and the final game on Sunday, March 19, at 1 p.m.

AU women’s golf takes second in Valspar

The Jaguar women’s golf team finished second in the Valspar Invitational at Forest Hills last weekend. Only Wake Forest had a better team score in the rain-shortened tournament. AU finished ahead of Ole Miss, Florida and Florida State.

Kennedy Carroll led the way for Augusta with a 142 score, good for ninth place. Mirabel Ting was next at 145. Napabhach Boon-In followed Ting at 146.

The Jaguars will be playing in the Florida State Matchup this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.

Men’s golf finishes third in St. Simons tourney

The Jaguar men finished third behind Davidson and Wright State in the Sea Palms Invitational at St. Simons Island. Behn Heyns of AU tied for fifth at 203 to lead AU. Teammate Stefan Jacobs was next in 18th place.

Next up for the Augusta men is the Linger Longer Invitational at the Reynolds Plantation Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton beginning Sunday, March 19.

Jaguar softball team will host Columbus State

The AU softball team will host Columbus State in a Peach Belt Conference series this weekend.

The Jaguars (13-14, 0-9) are looking for the first league win of the season. The opener is Saturday, March 18, at 1 p.m. The second game will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday’s finale will start at noon.
