AU's Chalk the Walk brings back childhood memories and positivity

Do you remember all the fun you would have drawing on sidewalks and driveways with chalk as a little kid then stepping back and seeing the beauty of all your artistic work?
Chalk the Walk, a national event, gives students the opportunity to inspire and spread optimistic messages through sidewalk chalk.
On Nov. 8 and Nov. 9, students at Augusta University showed off their creativity on the JSAC patio by creating inspiring messages and joyful drawings with chalk.
Amelia Butler, a senior at Augusta University, said that Chalk the Walk is a great way to encourage other students through childhood memories.
“It’s a great way to spread positivity on campus,” said Butler. “We often need some words of encouragement, and Chalk the Walk is a fun way of doing it.”
The creators of Chalk the Walk, The Joy Team, are about spreading joy and inspiration with messages and images that infuse positivity in communities.
At Augusta University, various students participated in the joy-spreading movement with drawings that showed off the students’ talents along with words of encouragement such as “You matter.” and “Don’t spread the negative."
Junior Tykeria Priester said she enjoyed seeing the sidewalk filled with colorful, eye-catching images that enlightened her mood.
“Imagine you’re having a bad day and you walk outside to find all this amazing artwork that you try not to step on; then, you start reading all the positive words and phrases,” she said. “Now your day has gotten better!”
