On Tuesday, Sep. 15, 2020, United States Senate Candidate Reverend Raphael Warnock held a press conference with Georgian student media, where he spoke about social justice, climate change, voting rights, and the critical issues facing students in Georgia.

Warnock is a member of the Democratic Party and is running for a seat in the United State Senate which is currently held by a member of the Republican Party, Kelly Loeffler.

This election year is not only important for a change in the office of the President, but Georgia has two seats that are open in the senate. If Warnock wins then the Senate will be turned from red to blue.

Warnock is endorsed by Fair Fight, a national voting rights organization, and the Voter Protection Program.

Our country is facing a multi-generational and multi-racial movement fighting for police reform and social justice. Warnock does support funding the police but believes that their needs to be major reform. He has been fighting and protesting the issue of police brutality for years.

“I am running against two people who don’t know the difference between climate change and weather,” said Warnock about is stance on climate change.

Warnock further explains that young people are being asked to change the way they live their lives by wearing a mask in public, but when the young people ask the older generation to address climate change, the older generation simply will not do it.

Warnock states that with voter fraud, Georgia is the place where democracy goes to die. According to Joe Earls, a journalist with the Red & Black from the University of Georgia, “(Warnock) will be a champion for liberty and democracy.”

Warnock states that “the gap in inequality is getting wider and wider.” He believes that health care is a right, and “essential workers should be paid an essential wage.”

“This Covid-19 challenge is a teachable moment in so many ways,” said Warnock. He further states that the coronavirus helps us see what needs to happen and make things very clear, this shows that we have to get health care for all.

He also plans on developing a zero to four space, where working parents will have the resources so that they can go to work and support their family.

He explained his stance on student loans by stating that “they (students) have a mortgage before they can get a mortgage.”

If elected into office, he plans on fighting for Pell Grants. He believes that a young person’s education should not be determined by their parents’ income.

“I think this is one of those moments to bend that ark towards,” said Warnock. He concluded his press conference by stating that some things become clearer in the dark, and that the moral ark of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice.
