Lodise goes deep to give Jaguars' win over GSW in PBC home opener

Kyle Lodise hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Augusta University baseball team to an 8-6 victory over Georgia Southwestern on Friday, Feb. 24, at Jaguar Baseball Field.
The Jaguars (1-3, 2-7) rallied from a 5-1 deficit to pull out the triumph in their Peach Belt Conference home opener.
AU scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to overcome a 6-4 deficit. The home team had also scored three in the eighth inning.
Lodise led the way on a 2-for-4 day with five RBI. Pat Galvin had a double and two RBI. Rushton Bowles went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
Jasper Dubberly pitched the ninth and got the win for AU.
The two teams are scheduled to play game two of the series Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m.
Friday’s game concluded just before heavy rain moved into the Augusta area.
Softball loses at Lander
The AU softball team suffered a 7-4 loss to Lander on Feb. 24 in the Jaguars’ PBC opener.
The Bearcats scored six runs in the third to break open a scoreless tie.
Lauren Evens homered and Lauren Slade doubled for AU (0-1, 11-4). Augusta scored two in the fourth and two in the seventh, but those were not enough to mount a successful rally.
The two teams return to the field on Feb. 25 for a doubleheader. First pitch for the opener is 1 p.m.
