Lindgren leads AU on first day of Maui Jim in Arizona

The opening day of the Maui Jim Invitational is in the books for the Augusta University men’s golf team at the Mirabel Golf Club for the in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Junior Viktor Lindgren shot a 71 to lead the Jaguars. That was a 1-over-par score on the par-70, 7,115-yard Mirabel layout. Lindgren shot 33 (2 under par) on the front nine and had a 38 on the back nine. he is tied for 51st on the individual leaderboard.
Lindgren was followed by freshman Gareth Steyn (+2), sophomore Jack Vajda (+4), sophomore Hampus Wijkstrom (+8) and sophomore Dawson Booth (+8) to round AU’s scoring for the first day.
Friday was the first day of the three-day tournament, and it was a day where low scores were hard to come by. Georgia Tech junior Ross Steelman leads the with an 8-under-par 62. Three of the top four players on the leaderboard are from Tech.
AU’s first-round pairings were with the University of Oregon and Clemson University.
After day one, AU finds itself on the team leaderboard in 14th place with a combined score of (+15), trailing team leader Georgia Tech, which as is at 16 under par.
Saturday, or also known as “moving day”, will need to be better for AU in order to move up the leaderboard. As a team they trail Alabama and Oregon by eight shots for thirteenth place tied at 7 over par.
