J.A. Adande, veteran sports writer with the Los Angeles Times and ESPN, will visit Augusta University on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Adande will give a lecture titled: “In the Zone: Sports Journalism in the 21st Century” at 1 p.m. in University Hall room 170 on the Summerville Campus.

Adande is best known for his appearances on ESPN, especially on the shows “Pardon the Interruption” and “Around the Horn.”

A native of Los Angeles, Adande started his career at the Los Angeles Times and also worked at the Washington Post and Chicago Sun-Times. He was a columnist who covered major sporting events, including the NCAA Tournament, Super Bowl, Olympics and Wimbledon.

He has served as the director of sports journalism at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., since 2017.

“We are fortunate to have Mr. Adande to visit AU and speak to our students about sports journalism,” said Department of Communication chair David W. Bulla, who teaches a sports communication class at AU. “He will share his expertise about sports media and talk to students about how they can adapt to changing conditions of the 21st-Century sports communication job market.”

Adande earned his B.A. in journalism from Northwestern. While at NWU, he was sports editor of The Daily Northwestern. He was a classmate of Seretha Williams, who is chair of the Department of English and World Language at AU.

The talk is sponsored by the Pamplin Colleges of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, as well as the Department of Communication, Department of English and World Languages and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
