Coffee Week: Ubora
By Katelen Selph | Staff Writer
To kick off Coffee Week at Augusta University, we will be exploring coffee spots that are close to campus for coffee lovers who either need a pick-me-up or want to try a new local place.
Our first stop during Coffee Week is Ubora.
Ubora is one of the most well-known coffee shops in the Augusta area. This cafe was created in 2018 out of a passion for coffee. Many students and locals go to Ubora for the peaceful yet unique atmosphere. You can always see smiling faces and hands full with coffee in this gathering place. The name Ubora comes from the Swahili word for excellence which is a nod to where coffee is created, Africa.
Ubora roasts all of their own coffee beans in-house imported from all around South America. They use a special process called Cupping which is used to test the quality of a batch of beans. Each batch of coffee beans goes through rounds and rounds of testing to determine that the quality is up to their high standards.
The staff describes this not as a science, but an art. This whole process occurs in-house and shows the passion that Ubora has for the finest of coffee. Garrett, who has been working at Ubora for one year, says “The level of care is what makes Ubora different.” His favorite drink is the Ube Vietnamese which is a part of their new seasonal drinks.
Ubora is located at 1128 Jones St, Augusta, GA 30901
