Campus couture: the fashion favorites of Augusta University college students

With the start of the fall semester comes the beginning of the latest fashion trends making their way through the student body. From bringing back trends straight from the early 2000s, to falling in love with new ones like color blocking and monochromatic styles, Augusta University students are setting and defining all things trending in the fashion world.

But what makes a fashion fad truly fabulous? Welcome to the realm of fashion “fabs” as we explore what trends are allowing Augusta University students to express themselves this upcoming school year.

One trend made notable by Augusta University students is vintage and thrifted clothing. Many college students are drawn to styles from past decades, particularly 80s and 90s streetwear. From graphic tees and oversized sweatshirts to cargo pants and chunky sneakers, vintage clothing offers college students stylish clothing pieces through its patterns, material and timelessness.

“My favorite trend right now is the streetwear trucker aesthetic. I have enjoyed seeing people in trucker hats, graphic tees, and Birkenstocks,” said Brett Hallam, a sophomore at Augusta University.

Vintage and thrifted clothing also allows college students to find pieces that they love at a price that is affordable, especially when in college. Thrifting itself, with the help of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, has taken this generation by storm as it allows college students an easy activity to bond with their friends while simultaneously allowing them to find original and cost-friendly clothing that is also environmentally friendly.

Lena Garrard, a senior at Augusta University mentions how she can see vintage clothing continuing to become more mainstream, as college students have become more comfortable with it and it has become less taboo.

Another popular trend among students at Augusta University is the integration of bold colors and statement pieces into everyday outfits. With bright, neon colors becoming more appealing, many students pair bold colors together to complete their outfits or choose to wear simpler outfits with larger accessories.

“A fashion trend that I have been loving lately is color blocking. I specifically love light blues being paired with bright pinks,” said Garrard.

While bold colors and statement pieces may not be every college student’s cup of tea, monochromatic outfits that capture the essence of one color across different palettes has also become a trend. Many students choose to find different variations, whether that be shade or texture, of the same color to create the perfect outfit. This idea allows college students to be more creative in how they layer and style the same color within different forms of clothing.

“I would love to see a lot more experimentation with different washes, silhouettes, and textures of black being combined. It’s a color palette that allows you to be creative in other aspects without focusing so much on color theory,” said Hallam.

At Augusta University, students are constantly discovering new ways to showcase their creativity and individuality through fashion. As new trends surface each month, the student body is sure to remain ready to keep up and evolve with the new fashion styles that come their way. This blend of personal expression and trendsetting ensures that campus fashion will always be vibrant, diverse, and ever-changing.
