The Augusta University women’s basketball team pounded the Livingstone Bears 70-35 in Salisbury, N.C., on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

“It felt good to secure another road win,” said AU Coach Millette Green. “To be able to accomplish our goal of competing for a championship, we must defend our home court and find a way to win on the road.”

AU led 14-9 after the first period and kept its lead throughout the game as the Jaguars outscored the Bears 16-13 in the second, 20-6 in the third and 20-7 in the fourth.

“We met one of our three offensive goals and all three of our defensive goals,” said Green. “I am very pleased with our collective efforts on the defensive rebounds. It was emphasis in practice leading up to our game.”

Kennedi Manning led the Jaguars with 17 points. Zairya West and Tomiyah Alford each had 10 points, and Kiera Howard was right behind them with 9 points. Howard led with 4 assists. Je’Bria Fullwood led with 9 rebounds, and Autumn Phillips had 7.

AU heads into their next competition 5-1, but there are still things Green would like for her girls to work on beforehand.

“We will continue to work on rebounding and half court execution,” said Green. “We have been doing a good job of scoring in transition and using our defense to create offense. Our goal is getting better at executing in the half court.”

The Jaguars will host the Allen University Yellow Jackets on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tipoff is at 1:30 pm. at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
