Augusta University women’s golf team gets on the podium for second at Furman Invitational

The Augusta University women’s golf team tied for second at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., on Sept. 26.

Augusta and North Florida both shot 873 for second place in the tournament.

Furman, the host of the tourney, shot 841 to come in first. The Paladins broke the tournament scoring record by 12 shots.

Augusta senior Natalia Yoko tied for seventh with Furman’s Kyra Cox and UNCW’s Malu Brinker. All three shot even par 216 on the par-72 Furman University Golf Course.

Yoko shot 1-under-par 71 on each of the first two rounds and shot a 74 on the final day of the tournament.

The Jaguars progressively got more comfortable playing on the Furman course. The Jaguars shot 295 in the first round, 292 in the second and 286 in the third.

AU’s Napabhach Boon-In finished the tournament tied for 10th after shooting a 72 in the final round. Freshman Chloe Holder, who had won the Mercedes-Benz Invitational at Knoxville, Tenn., the previous week, finished tied for 19th, shooting 4 over par. Mary Hunt Murray, the Augusta Prep alumna, finished tied for 32nd, shooting 9 over par, and freshman Kennedy Carroll ended tied for 37th. 

Petra Duran, a player playing individually for Augusta, came in 68th at 241.

In the team race, Coastal Carolina finished fourth, James Madison fifth, Georgia Southern and Western Kentucky tied for sixth, UNCW eighth, Stetson ninth, Memphis 10th, Florida Gulf Coast 11th, Wofford 12th and Daytona State 12th.

Up next for the Jaguars is the Windy City Collegiate Classic on Oct. 4-5 in Wilmette, Ill.
