The Augusta University Wind Ensemble delivered a stirring performance Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Maxwell Theatre. The concert, titled Me/We, captivated the audience with its diverse program and served as the centerpiece of the Augusta University Concert Band Festival, which also featured bands from middle and high schools across the River Region.

Headlining the evening’s performances, the Wind Ensemble showcased the talents of both student musicians and guest artists. Trombone virtuoso Wycliffe Gordon took center stage for his original composition, Me/We, bringing his signature style and passion to the performance. Renowned pianist Martin Jones joined the ensemble for a powerful rendition of Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm Variations, dazzling the crowd with his technical prowess. In a special appearance, Rob Foster introduced a unique element to the program, performing on the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute.

General admission tickets were priced at $10, with discounts available for students and seniors, making the event accessible to a wide audience. Many attendees expressed appreciation for the high-caliber performance.

“It’s amazing to have such high-quality music right here in Augusta,” concertgoer Jane Smith said. “The Wind Ensemble put on an incredible show, and the guest artists made it even more special.”

Others praised the dedication of the student performers.

“It’s wonderful to see the musicians put in countless hours of rehearsal to make this concert a success,” attendee Thomas Jimperson said. “Seeing their efforts come to life on stage and hearing the audience’s enthusiastic response was truly rewarding.”

With Me/We setting a high standard for the season, the Augusta University Wind Ensemble is poised to continue delivering captivating and memorable performances throughout the year.
