Augusta University to talk about food insecurity at upcoming event

Augusta University is hosting an event called Cooking Up Solutions to Food Insecurity on Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Oak Hall connect space from 6-8 p.m.
This event is to help bring awareness to college students with food insecurities. They will have a guest speaker and will even learn how to cook something.
Shareen Clement, director of the Multicultural Student Engagement office, is organizing the event.
“This event aims to educate students about food insecurity while connecting them with resources such as JagsLiveWell and the Dean of Student Office,” said Clement.
During this event, students will be hearing from guest speaker Simone Hicks, learning how to cook elevated ramen and getting connected with some of the campus resources the college offers. This event will last one hour. They are doing it twice back to back so that way they can space out the groups.
“As we all know, ramen noodles are the universal college struggle meal, so we thought it would be fun to show students how to make a more complete and nutritious meal using an affordable base,” said Clement.
Participants can donate to Open Paws Pantry, which is AU’s food pantry on campus to help students who are struggling. Students who live in Oak Hall are competing to see who brings in the most items. Whichever hall brings in the most will receive funding for the hall program.
