Exciting times are just around the corner for the class of 2024 at Augusta University.
This Thursday, May 9, there will be a Graduate Hooding and Commencement Ceremony at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center at 6 p.m. This event will celebrate all graduate students. AU President Brooks Keel will serve as the keynote speaker.
The following day, the Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies will take place. University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue is the keynote speaker for the undergraduate portion.
The first ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center and will celebrate undergraduate students from the College of Allied Health Sciences, College of Education and Human Development, Hull College of Business, and Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
The second ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the same building and will celebrate undergraduate students from the College of Nursing, College of Science and Mathematics, and School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.
These commencement ceremonies also mark the last ones for President Keel, who’s retiring this summer.
One senior and our Editor in chief, Rakiyah Lenon, shared her thoughts about the upcoming ceremony. Lenon will be the student commencement speaker for the 10 a.m. ceremony.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to speak to my fellow graduating class. It's an honor,” said Lenon. “It's incredible that we've made it to this moment, and I'm so glad for all of us."
Luke Anderson, a student from the College of Nursing, is the student commencement speaker for the 2 p.m. session.
Madelyn Eden, a senior in business who plays for the AU varsity volleyball team, will sing the national anthem.
