Augusta men's basketball gets road victory at Newberry

Tyshaun Crawford had 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead Augusta University past Newberry College 81-72 at Eleazer Arena in Newberry, S.C., on Monday, Dec. 19.

Darren Lucas-White added 16 points for the 12th-ranked Jaguars (10-1). Miguel Arnold chipped in 14 points, and David Viti totaled 13 for AU. Viti was 4 of 5 on his 3-point attempts.

The Wolves (7-4) were led by Caleb Byrd with 17 points. Quandaveon McCollum added 13, and Andrew Robinson had 12 for Newberry.

Augusta shot 51 percent from the field and held the Wolves to a 42-percent shooting night.

The Jaguars led 34-27 at halftime and stretched the lead to 16 on a Crawford layup with 2:38 left in the game.

The Jaguars will take nearly two weeks off for the holiday break and will return to action on Dec. 31 when they host Emmanuel College at noon.

Later Monday, the Augusta women lost at Anderson University 71-58.

Kiera Howard led the Jaguars (8-3) with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and teammate Tomiyah Alford also had 14 points. Brittney Stafford and Jayln Spurlin each had 14 points for Anderson (7-6).

The AU women will host Emmanuel on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
