Augusta Greek Life Hosts Welcome Back Bash for Students

Augusta Greek Life Hosts Welcome Back Bash for Students

By Jack Johnson | Staff writer

Hundreds of students showed up Friday, Aug. 20 to the Summerville amphitheater for Greek Life’s Welcome Back Bash.

Several attractions were on display at the event for students to take advantage of such as a mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, bounce house, and an Italian ice vending truck. Games were also provided such as ping pong and can jam as well as a DJ providing music.

The event was put on by the Augusta University Inner Fraternity Council which is the collective governing body of all Greek life organizations at Augusta.

IFC member Ben Armistead said, “We work very hard to put this event on at the start of each semester and I’m proud of how it’s turned out. We really want to make Augusta students aware of Greek life here and the welcome back bash is a great way to do that.”

All of the Greek organizations at Augusta had tables set up at this event for students to learn more about that specific organization from one of its members, Delta Chi, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Gamma Ro and Zeta Tau Alpha were just some of the organizations that had tables at the event.

Pi Kappa Phi president Alex Rountree said, “This is one of my favorite IFC events each year. It’s a great place to come have some fun and meet new people. An event like this allows us to make our organization known to a lot of people and it’s also a good place for us all to bond and grow closer as friends.”

The event was scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday but was cut short due to weather concerns. Despite ending early, the event was quite successful as hundreds of students gathered at the Summerville Amphitheater to partake in the fun.

The event was stopped by 8 p.m. due to weather concerns and students were ushered to their vehicles to avoid an impending thunderstorm.

Greek Life and IFC plan to hold another welcome back bash at the start of the spring semester next year and will release a date and time as we get closer to 2022.
