AU women open PBC play with victory over USC Beaufort

The Augusta University began Peach Belt Conference play with a 74-67 win over USC Beaufort on Jan. 3 in Bluffton, S.C.

The Jaguars (1-0, 7-4) were led by guard Autumn Phillips with 18 points. Yamani Paul totaled 14 for AU, and Mone Florence added 13.

AU built a 37-29 halftime lead and built the lead to 12 in the fourth quarter, but the Sand Sharks (0-1, 4-5) clawed back to within 68-63 before the Jaguars put the game away.

USCB’s Janiyah Heyward led all scorers with 21 points.

Augusta will play at Columbus State on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 1:30 p.m.
