Jaguar volleyball team defeats Emmanuel, notches 12th straight win

Led by the attacking efforts of Jazmyn Wheeler and Sophia Kruczko, the Augusta University volleyball team won its 12th straight match, sweeping Emmanuel in three sets to avenge the Jaguars’ last loss.
Wheeler had 11 kills, played stellar defense and served three aces to lead AU (13-3) past the Lions by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 at Christenberry Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Kruczko added nine kills and two blocks.
Emmanuel had beaten Augusta in straight sets on Labor Day weekend at the Embry-Riddell tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Madelyn Eden and Abigail LeVines each added five kills as the Jaguars dominated play at the net for most of the night. Jada Suguturaga led a stout defense at the net with five blocks.
Dariana Luna, Janvier Buggs, Rylie Harris and Alley Thees helped Wheeler lead the defensive effort off the net. Luna had 14 digs, Buggs and Wheeler 13 each, Harris added 10 and Thees chipped in seven digs. Buggs led in assists with 26.
Emily Hanson led the Lions (9-7) with 12 kills, and Alaina Emminger added nine. Ellie Jackson had 21 digs. Gabrielle McGlamery had 28 assists for Emmanuel.
The Jaguars will host Francis Marion on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. before hosting Lander at 3 p.m. the next afternoon in a battle of the Peach Belt Conference leaders.
