The Augusta University men's golf team finished fifth out of sixteen teams at the JT Poston Invitational at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, N.C., Sept. 25-26.

The Jaguars shot 3-under-par 849 for the 54-hole event at the par-71, 7,007-yard Sapphire Valley course.

This is an improvement from their last tournament at Marquette where they placed seventh.

AU finished just 10 shots off the winning score of 839 by Drexel. Elon was second at 845, followed by Georgia Southern and Radford tied for fourth at 846.

Senior Dawson Booth started off strong as he carded a tournament-low round of 66 on the first day of play. Booth led the team as he finished 2-over and tied for 20th place out of 100 players. Booth shot a 69 in the second round, but he slumped to a 76 over the final 18. Booth kept AU in the close team race throughout.

The Jags who competed were Booth, sophomore Stefan Jacobs, graduate student Ryan van der Klis, graduate student Cole Stevens and freshman Dalton Burts. Sophomore Ian Pienaar and sophomore Dean Wilken played as individuals.

Jacobs, who led the team in the last tournament, tied for 26th, Klis tied for 42nd, while Stevens and Burts tied for 54th. Pienaar placed 64th and Wilken tied for 86th.

The Jags have a week off from tournament play before they head to Johnson City, Tenn., to play in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate hosted by East Tennessee State University. This tournament is slated for October 8-10.
