The Augusta University men’s golf team tied for third place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate tournament at the Blackthorn Golf Club in Jonesborough, Tenn., on Oct. 10.
After securing fourth place in the first round, the Jags fell back to sixth place at the end of the second day of play. The Jags worked hard on the final day of play to climb back and tie for third overall.
East Tennessee State University won the event with a three-day total of 837 at the par-72, 7,118-yard Blackthorn at the Ridges course. Charlotte (849) was second, and AU tied Toledo for third (both at 862).
Senior Dawson Booth and sophomore Stefan Jacobs led the Jags. Both Booth and Jacobs tied for 21st, getting even-par 72s on the final 18. Both finished at 216 for the 54-hole tournament.
Graduate student Ryan van der Klis tied for 34th, graduate student Cole Stevens tied for 48th, and freshman Josh Koekemoer tied for 55th. Playing as an individual, freshman Chapman Barnett finished 72nd.
“It was a great week for the Jags,” said AU Assistant Coach Ben Nelson.
Augusta has improved each time out this fall with a seventh-place finish at the Marquette Invitation and then a fifth-place result at the JT Poston Invitational.
The Jags will return to competitive play for the Pinetree Intercollegiate at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw on Oct. 23-24.
