AU men finish 12th in Badger Invitational golf tournament

The Augusta University Jaguars finished 12th in the team standings in the Badger Invitational men’s golf tournament at the University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wis.

The final round yet again saw some of the Augusta University men’s golf team improve on their previous rounds at the tournament.  

AU sophomore Wilhelm Berg Von Linde led the team with a final-round 70 at 2 under par. Von Linde finished the tournament at 4 over par and tied for 34th. 

Both Alex and CJ Van Wyk finished the tournament tied for 39th. Junior Alex Van Wyk finished round three with a 75, while his brother CJ Van Wyk shot a 73. Both brothers turned in a performance of 5 over par for the tournament.  

AU sophomore Jack Vajda turned in a round-three score of 73 to finish tied for 47th place. Vajda finished the three day tournament at 7 over par.  

AU freshman Gareth Steyn finished the day with a 78 and tied for 72nd. Steyn shot a combined 17 over par for the tournament.  

AU sole individual this week at the Badger Invitational was sophomore Dawson Booth, who fresh off of his victory at the Augusta City Amateur kept the momentum rolling as on day three he shot a 3-under-par 69. Booth finished the three day tournament with a combined score of 5 over par and tied for 39th place.  

Illinois State won the team title by three shots over Sam Houston. Cincinnati was third, host Wisconsin fourth and Northern Illinois fifth. The Bearcats’ Sam Jean shot a final-round 69 to earn the medalist honor at 209. Second place went to Reece Nilsen of Northern Illinois at 210 and Griffin Barela of Wisconsin took third at 211.

AU will next be in action at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn., on October 10-12.
