Affordable things to do in Augusta: Augusta Candle Co.
By Janell Williams | Staff writer
One of the more challenging aspects of being a college student during a pandemic is finding activities that are fun, safe and most of all, affordable.
Augusta Candle Co. checks all of these boxes. I had the pleasure of visiting this establishment and making my own candle and car freshener. The entire experience was so much fun and I had a blast. Conveniently located in downtown Augusta, this shop is the perfect place to have a day or night of fun for a fair price.
The best part? Every candle is hand-picked by you.
When you enter, you are given a clipboard and pen to write your name. Next, you are directed to an entire wall of over 100 scented candles. You can smell all of them and write down all of the ones you love.
After this, you go to your service rep with your findings, and they will give you a marker to place a dot next to your top three or four scent choices. From here, you can smell all of the oils of your selected scents together to see if you like the smell.
You will then select a jar for your candle. There are many options and sizes displayed for you to look over and choose.
Next, you get to measure them all out in ratios you prefer and pour the mixture over your wick.
Finally, depending on how early you arrive, you can take your candle home that same day. However, if you are anything like me and get there an hour and a half before closing, you can pick your candle up the next day.
So far, my candle is very potent and my car smells amazing. I mixed absinthe, burnt sugar and incense to create my scent, and it was a sweet and fruity scent that reminded me of cereal. For this reason, after careful consideration, my service rep and I thought the scent should be appropriately named Fruity Pebbles. My jar is glass and 16 oz in size.
The entire experience only cost me $30. It was definitely worth it! This can also be a little cheaper if you choose a smaller jar or other method for your scent, such as an incense oil or wax melt.
The service is amazing and the reps are super nice and helpful. The space is huge so big friend groups can gather and have a good time. If you’re more of an introvert, like myself, you can also stop in and have a self-date.
The shop has many more shopping options as well. There are sugar scrubs, t-shirts, premade candles and hand soaps. If you are ever in the downtown area looking for something fun to do, you should definitely stop at the Augusta Candle Co.
