Augusta’s St. Germain III enters transfer portal, adding to Jaguars’ offseason departures

Augusta University point guard John St. Germain III announced Thursday afternoon via Instagram that he is entering the transfer portal, marking another major departure for the Jaguars this offseason.

The news was particularly shocking, as it came shortly after leading scorer and All-American Honorable Mention Demitri Gardner declared his intention to test the transfer portal as well. St. Germain’s decision also follows that of Zyere Edwards, an explosive role player for the Jaguars, who recently announced his transfer plans.

A sophomore from Charlottesville, Virginia, St. Germain quickly became a key piece for Augusta’s program. Over the past two seasons, he led the team in assists and played a crucial role in the Jaguars' offensive system. This past season, he appeared in every game, averaging 14.6 points per contest while providing steady leadership at the point guard position.

With St. Germain and Gardner transferring and senior Max Amadasun graduating, head coach Dip Metress now faces the challenge of replacing his top three scorers from the past season. The departures leave a significant void in the lineup, forcing Augusta to look toward returning players and potential newcomers to fill key roles.

While the Jaguars have been a consistent force in the Peach Belt Conference, roster turnover at this level can present both challenges and opportunities. With the transfer portal becoming an increasingly common tool in college basketball, Metress and his staff will likely be active in recruiting to rebuild the roster for the upcoming season.

As Augusta navigates these changes, the focus now shifts to how the program will reload and maintain its competitive edge in the PBC.
