abundance-blur-bundle-close-up-167538By Haley Knight|Editor-in-chiefPrint news has been a slowly dying industry with the advances technology has made. Thousands of people have lost their jobs or had to embrace the technological advances in their industry. Is this virus killing more than people?I say, yes. COVID-19, or novel coronavirus, is speculated to be a strand of coronavirus that originated in an animal and passed onto humans, according to the CDC website. It is widely known that the virus originated in China and has since spread globally to impact several countries like Italy and the US.People have become more aware of their environments and are refusing to touch “unnecessary, or public” items like newspapers. This reaction has cause many college newspapers to go online fully and possibly stay there indefinitely. This could cause the death of print. Digital technology rules the world and will only advance further. Most publications already have a website, but have not chosen to go fully digital. For many, COVID-19 has now made print an impossible option due to its uncontrollable access to germs.Soon, the number of print-based student publications that will die in this pandemic will be revealed. Contact Haley Knight at HKNIGHT@augusta.edu
