0I8A6078By Madison Bradley and Meighan Coretti |Staff writersHave you thought about your personal fitness goals for the new year? With the start of a new year, many college students have the drive to “get fit” but do not have the budget to cover a gym membership. If you are one of these students (and let us be honest, we all are) the school offers a nice facility, membership included in tuition, for its students.  This facility located at DA 1000 – Student Center Health Sciences Campus on 1488 Laney Walker Blvd Augusta, GA 30912.  Normal operating hours for the facility are: Monday – Thursday: 5:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Holiday hours can be found, online, at www. augusta.edu/campus-recreation/wellness/.Some classes that the center offers range from Zumba, Spin Yoga, to more intense workouts like Bootcamp and Core ExpressThese classes range in time from 30 to 50 minutes each. This could potentially be a great study break that would keep your mind active.  Below are descriptions for the classes offered: Barre (50 min) – Barre classes mix elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and functional training with choreographed moves to help sculpt, slim and stretch your entire body. Bootcamp (50 min) – This workout blends various styles of HIIT, strength-training and more. Core Express (30 min) – Uses circuit training for a core-blasting and cardio exercise. HIIT (50 min) – Maximizes muscle exhaustion through less intense recovery periods during exercise. Hula Hoop (50 min) – Great cardio for all skill levels in hula-hooping.  Insanity (50 min) – Completely cardio-based, total body workout that burns the most calories while improving your cardio conditioning. Modifications are used to adapt to all fitness levels.  Spinning (50 min) – Helps increase your cardiovascular endurance as you pedal your way through resistance hills, climbs, and intervals.  WERQ (50 min) – Dance workout done to the hottest pop and hip-hop music in today’s biggest hits. Yoga (50 min) – This class is designed to calm the spirit, focus the mind, and challenge the body while addressing strength and flexibility through a range of poses for all fitness levels.  Spin Yoga (50 min) – Combines indoor cycling and yoga for a high intensity workout. Students pedal through an instructor-led visual ride followed by a cool down with yoga.  Zumba (50 min)  Uses movement elements found in traditional Latin dances and incorporates them in an interval and resistance training combo.   It is important to remember that a “class pass” is required and available, on a first come first serve basis, thirty minutes prior to the start of each activity at the front desk.Stay tuned for some healthy tips and recipes! Contact Madison at MABRADLEY@augusta.eduContact Meighan at MCORETTI@augusta.edu
