Jaguars rally to defeat Young Harris, 83-78

Staff reportTroy Cracknell poured in a career-high 29 points to lead the Augusta University men to an 83-78 win over Young Harris in a Peach Belt Conference contest on Saturday, Jan. 11.Cracknell made 6-of-12 three-pointers on an afternoon when AU shot 48 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc. The junior sharpshooter helped the Jaguars (4-1, 9-4) rally from a 42-38 halftime deficit.Teammate Rafael Monteiro added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Tyshaun Crawford chipped in 13 points and 13 rebounds. Tyree Myers had 11 points and 11 assists for AU.YH's Makiah Fox opened the second with a three-pointer for a 45-38 Mountain Lion lead, but the Jaguars went on a 25-6 run to take control of the game. Young Harris would cut the AU lead to 74-72 with 1:59 left, but Cracknell would bury a three-pointer and Crawford would make two free throws to ensure victory.Seth McCoy led the Mountain Lions (1-4, 3-10) with 18 points, followed by Brian Harper with 13 points and Ryle Owens with 12.In the women's game, Young Harris got 17 points each from Carly Winters and Sarah Woghiren to defeat Augusta 71-59. The game was essentially won in the first half as the Mountain Lions (2-3, 8-5) built a 33-15 halftime bulge. AU (3-2, 6-7) was led by Crystal Corley with 19 points.Both AU teams host Francis Marion on Wednesday night, Jan. 15. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.
