By Erin Burditt |Sports writerAugusta University’s volleyball team improved to 5-3 in the Peach Belt Conference and 21-7 overall after beating the Georgia College Bobcats 3-1 on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Milledgeville. Chloe Allen and Nicolette Ramos led AU with 12 kills apiece. Ramos had an impressive hit percentage at .647., while Allen had a .579 hit percentage. Jessica Hedrick, Payton Murchie and Samantha Zittrauer also played well. Hedrick hit at .500 for the night while adding eight kills. Murchie led the Jaguars in assists with 24. Zittrauser added 18 assists.The Jaguars started fast and won the first set 25-10. Georgia College was able to keep it close in the beginning, but a kill from Kylie Martin led to a 15-point run for the Jaguars. Allen put the Bobcats away with oa kill.The second set between the two schools was more of a back-and-forth affair, but the Jaguars held on to win by a 25-19 score. The Bobcats got off to a much better start in the second set as they took an early lead on the Jaguars. The Jaguars picked it up on offense as they took a five-point lead late in the set. Georgia College responded by making it a 20-18 game before the Jaguars were able to close it out 25-19.The Jaguars won the third set by a final score of 25-21, making this a win in straight sets. The Jags got off to a fast start as they took a 16-9 lead, but the Bobcats were able to fight their way back by making it a one-point score late in the set. Kylie Martin struck again for the Jaguars as she sparked another run giving AU a 24-20 lead before the Bobcats surrendered the match point on an error.The Bobcats fell to 1-7 in the conference and 7-16 overall.The Jaguars travel to Florence, S.C., to play Francis Marion on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. The Jaguars don’t return home until Nov. 15 when they play USC Aiken at Christenberry Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. Contact Erin Burditt at xxxxxxx.
