Update: Students continue protest of Mobley termination

By Haley Knight |Content editorFor the second day in a row, AU students have protested the, in their belief, unjust termination of the Director of the Multicultural Center, Karen A. Mobley.Students, including Talecia Cistrunk, sat outside of Bellevue Hall today, Oct. 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in protest of the termination of Karen A. Mobley, who plans to file a wrongful termination grievance letter, or a rebuttal. Many students feel that Mobley has been unfairly terminated and hope she is reinstated to her former position as director of the Multicultural Center. Currently, Dr. Garrett Green, assistant director of Student Life and Engagement, has temporarily fulfilled Mobley’s position.Mobley was loved by both faculty and students. According to students, she has the ability to bring people together and help create diversity at Augusta University.“She helped a lot to bring the campus together,” said Cistrunk, an Art major. “I am hurt and angry.”Students have been left unsettled and confused regarding the termination of Mobley and hope she will be reinstated after the rebuttal. Contact Hayley Knight at HKNIGHT@augusta.edu.
