Lamb moves from AU Athletics to digital content head at DCM

By Zach Mereau |ContributorTaylor Lamb, former director of athletic media relations at Augusta University, has had a lot of weight on his shoulders as he undertook the challenges of not only starting a new position on campus, but also becoming a father.Lamb graduated from Georgia College and State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, but he attributes his interest in sports writing to his advisor at Savannah State University,“She kind of told me about communications degrees," Lamb said. "You can still write and be creative, and she knew I loved sports."Lamb would go on to serve as sports editor of the student newspaper at Georgia College, The Colonnade. After attaining his bachelor's degree, he moved to Augusta in search of work. Once here, Lamb landed a job at AU as an assistant to the sports information director (SID). At the same time, he also met his wife, Alyson. In 2014, he became the SID and stayed in the job through August of this year. During this seven years in sports information, he did stats for all major home athletics events, managed Augustajags.com (the AU Athletics website) and did the marketing and public relations for athletics. The job change has not been the only major adjustment his life. Lamb and his wife welcomed a baby boy last month and started his new position in AU's Division of Communications and Marketing (DCM) as the digital content manager that same week. Needless to say, he was very busy.Lamb says the best thing that he has done in preparation for the new position is “try to prioritize… be there for my wife as much as possible. Luckily, the Division of Communications and Marketing, they’re a great support system” he said. The person who had the biggest influence on Lamb's career at AU was Clint Bryant, the athletic director at the university.  Reminiscing upon his career, Lamb's most favorite moments of working at AU were when Snoop Dogg came to golf at the Masters, as well as when he surprised his wife with a proposal at the same event. The latter became viral for a short while, as professional photographers were hidden all around when he popped the question. Now, Lamb hopes for success at his new position.“I’m always looking to grow, to manage and lead my co-workers, but also work and learn alongside everyone around me," he said. "I don’t have all the answers, but that’s why there’s staffs of people around, so we can work together and get things done." Contact Zach Mereau at ZMEREAU@augusta.edu.
