By Sarah Tychsen |Sports editorFormer Augusta State University student-athlete Patrick Reed claimed his seventh PGA title this past weekend at the Northern Trust Championship, which was held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. The event took place from Aug. 8 through Aug. 11.The former Jaguar shot 16-under 268 for the 72-hole event. He earned himself 2000 FedEx Cup points and moved from No. 50 to No. 2 in the points race. He won a FedEx Cup playoff event for the second time in four years.On the final day, Reed had a few bogeys on his first six holes. He then managed to make a comeback on the back nine with no bogeys. He finished the final round at 2-under-par and a score of 69, securing his seventh title in his career and his second title this year.Reed played for then Augusta State University’s Division I program from 2009 through 2011. Reed was highly successful in his time at Augusta, as he led his team to back-to-back national championships. He also earned two all-American selections while playing for the university. In his time, Reed was named to the All-Nicklaus team, which is not only named for the history’s greatest player, Jack Nicklaus), but also someone who is a major supporter of amateur and collegiate golf.Reed was a strong competitor throughout the Masters tournament last year. That is when he managed to maintain his lead with outstanding putting and claimed his first major tournament victory. Following the Master’s, Reed has had a few top-10 finishes and now holds seven PGA tournament titles.The top 70 players within the FedEx Cup player standings are going to be competing in the 2019 BMW Championship, which will be held Aug. 13-18 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill.
