By Leeroy Francis Jr. |EditorJaguar women’s volleyball is back.The 2018 Peach Belt Conference Tournament champion Jaguars have released their 2019 volleyball schedule. Headlining the 2019 schedule will be a tournament at Queens University on Sept. 6- 7 and road matches at Flagler University on Oct. 4 and at cross-river rival USC Aiken on Oct. 19.AU Coach Sharon Quarles is pleased with the level of competition this 2019 season has to offer.“The 2019 schedule provides for both competitive and challenging opponents on every date of competition,” said Quarles, whose team went 24-8 last season. “With a squad size of 18, nine of which are highly talented new players, we are focused on working hard daily and executing when it matters. The goal is to get to Denver.”The NCAA Division II national championship tournament will be played in Denver on Dec. 12-14.Earlier, the Jaguars will host the Jaguar Rumble Tournament on Sept. 13-14 at Christenberry Fieldhouse, and the Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be held Nov. 22-24 at USC Aiken.Quarles hopes the Jaguars will return to the NCAA Southeast regional tournament. Last season, their campaign ended in the regional when they fell in the first round to Georgia College.The 2019 Jaguars women’s volleyball squad will be without graduating seniors McKenzey Beck (MVP of the conference tournament and first team all-conference), Blair Bolton, Nathalia Gouveia and Savanna Gonzales, but returning for her senior season will be middle blocker Jessica Hedrick and also back is junior Chloe Allen (2018 American Volleyball Coaches' Association all-region honorable mention and second team All-PBC).The 2018 Jaguars were ranked as high No. 2 in the NCAA Southeast Region and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.The Jaguars' 2019 schedule will not be easy, as the Jaguars will face the heavily talented 2018 Peach Belt top-seeded USC Aiken Patriots and Lander Bearcats squads, who each put up 20-plus wins last season.
