By Justin Little |ContributorIf I had three words to describe this film, they would be: epic, jaw-dropping and heartbreaking.“Avengers: Endgame” is the latest film in the long running Marvel Cinematic Universe that ties together a brilliantly executed 22-film arc. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in one of the biggest casts ever assembled on film. It follows the Avengers after the harrowing events of “Avengers: Infinity War” as they try and undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe. As stated in the title, this review is going to be spoiler free. Being spoiler free in a review is a double-edged sword. On one side, it will save you from knowing all of the surprises the film has in store. On the other hand, it means I have to be extremely vague with certain aspects of the film.Marvel Studios worked extremely hard to keep this film as much of a secret as possible, even to the point of digitally altering some shots in the trailers for the film. There is no simple way to put this, but “Avengers: Endgame” is one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time. As stated before, the film concludes a massive 22-film arc that effortlessly weaves numerous storylines and characters together. This is something that has never been done before, and the likelihood of it ever happening again is slim.Every actor in this film brought their "A"-game. Each of them delivers an exceptional and emotional performance. The visual effects are the best they have ever been. You can tell Marvel spent extra time polishing the effects on this film by looking at the massive list of visual effects artists in the credits to this film. Act one and act two of the film are brilliantly executed, but the third act of the film is by far the standout. I cheered, I laughed and I cried. This is truly a landmark film in every sense of the word. It shattered box office records on its opening weekend, pulling $1.2 billion dollars worldwide in just three days. I cannot recommend seeing this film more. It is something you are going to want to be a part of. But just as a tip before seeing the film, I highly recommend watching every Marvel film prior to this one and also using the restroom before the movie begins. The intimidating three-hour runtime is something you aren’t going to want to get up for.It is currently playing at Regal Augusta, Riverwatch and Evans cinemas. It is rated PG-13. Check the cinemas' websites for ticket prices and show times. Contact Justin Little at JULITTLE@augusta.edu.
