Kimball, Weathers establish new AU long-distance marks

Staff report |Sophomores Hunter Kimball and Micah Weathers established new school records on the track this past weekend in North Carolina.On Saturday, Kimball, who also is a cadet in the AU Army ROTC program, was timed in 30 minutes, 53.25 seconds in the 10,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays, good for 39th place overall. Teammate Noah Hulett, a senior, finished in 57th overall with a time of 31:56.23. Kimball and Hulett ran as individuals in that meet.Meanwhile, at the Trojan Challenge in Mount Olive, N.C., Weathers won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:23.20. Teammates Helen Rendich, Sinead O'Bryant and Madison Congdon finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.Also in the women's meet, the Jaguars' 4x400-meter relay team took home gold in a time of 4:11.12. Team members include Sarah Hossack, Morgan Mitchell, Miranda Taylor and Jayla Ferris.Overall, the AU women finished fourth out of 13 teams at Mount Olive.On the men's side, the Jaguars were second out of 15 teams.They were led by sophomore Derrian Wright, who finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.39. Freshman Alex Rountree won the javelin with a toss of 38.25 meters.In the 10,000 meters, senior Dylan Forester placed second with a time of 32:01.88, and sophomore Zatrick Pearce and freshman Xavier Allen were second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Pearce also finished second in the 200. AU's Rakeen Littles, a freshman, finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:45.22.Up next is the Peach Belt/Gulf South Crossover on Saturday, April 6 in Huntsville, Ala., hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
