Georgia College downs Jaguars' volleyball team in Peach Belt match

By Ceara Hester |ContributorGeorgia College defeated Augusta University in straight sets Tuesday night, Oct. 16 at Christenberry Fieldhouse in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match.In the first set, AU (17-5, 4-3) had a hitting percentage of .060, compared to Georgia College’s .182. The final set score was 25-20 in favor of the visiting Bobcats.During the last two sets, the Jags were lost to the Bobcats by scores of 25-19 and 25-18.After another disappointing loss to Georgia College (11-8, 4-3), AU Coach Sharon Quarles was disappointed with the result. The Jags had lost 3-1 in Milledgeville on Sept. 25.“Three seniors could not put a ball away,” Coach Quarles said of her team Tuesday night. “If they’re not getting their job done, they’re coming off the court.”Junior middle-blocker Jessica Hedrick and freshman middle-hitter Victoria Wade both posted seven kills for the Jaguars. Junior setter Cheryke Brian-Garmos contributed 15 assists, and senior setter McKenzey Beck, who was named PBC specialist of the week for the second time this season, had 14.Augusta (4-3, 17-5) will play at Flagler on Saturday, Oct. 20 at  2 p.m. in another conference match before hosting Francis Marion on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Ceara Hester at cehester@augusta.edu.
