By Leeroy Francis Jr. |Sports EditorThe Augusta University men made it two wins in a row, winning the North Georgia Cross Country Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29, in Gainesville, Ga. The Jaguar women placed sixth overall.AU’s men edged UNC-Pembroke by a single point, and Anderson University finished third.AU sophomore Jacob Poston, the Peach Belt Conference runner of the week, placed third individually, completing the 8-kilometer (4.97-mile) course in 25 minutes, 38.9 seconds. Jaguar sophomore Hunter Kimball and senior Noah Hulett finished with times of 25:57.3 and 26:04.4 to place fifth and seventh, respectively.They were followed up by freshmen Chandler Kennedy (14th), Jacob Brenneman (16th), Hans Troyer(17th), Josh Seiden (25th) and Rakeem Littles (29th). Freshman Anthony Urmetz, Kai Brickey, Chris Shelp, Ryan Gallagher and Chris Strickland all competed.The Jaguars got their first look at the regional course this season as the Nighthawks will host the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 17.The AU women were led by junior McKenzie Knudsen. She was eighth eighth overall, finishing the 6-kilometer (3.73-mile) course with a time of 23:59.8. Graduate student Helen Rendich and sophomore Miranda Taylor were next for the Jaguars, posting times of 25:38.6 and 26:18.6 to finish 31st and 45th, respectively.Host North Georgia won the women's race, with Anderson taking second, Columbus State third, North Greenville fourth and UNC-Pembroke fifth in the 14-team field.Rachel Hammesfahr (49th) and Macy Hayes (95th) also competed for the AU women. Micah Weathers, who has been AU's top runner this fall, did not run due to a minor injury.The next event for the AU cross country teams is the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College in Milledgeville on Saturday, Oct. 20.
