By Bekendrianna Wynn |ContributorStudents in arts, humanities and social sciences had a chance on Tuesday, Sept. 25 to network with professionals in their fields who are also AU alums.The Pamplin College invited AU alumni to be a part of FutureFest. Students filled the JSAC Ballroom to connect and network with former students. FutureFest is designed to expose students to the success experiences from alumni. Upon registration, students received an autograph sheet for alumni to autograph to push students to reach out to alums and ask about their choice of career field. After networking with five alums, students can trade their sheet for a free T-shirt.Alumna Jamie Lowe Jackson is now an executive digital editor at Morris Media Network. Jackson commented on how Career Services and the Communication Department played a major part in her current career choice.“I took a class that required a mock interview, but I did not take it serious at first,” said Jackson. “I walked into the Career Services Center and Melissa Hall helped me to prepare for interviews upon graduation.”Jackson, who worked for the Bell Ringer when she was at AU, continued on, explaining how taking a course called Communication for Business Professionals (COMM 3100) prepared her for her future endeavors. She also encouraged students to network as much as possible with professors and professionals at AU. She stated to students to connect more with their career advisor.“I really enjoyed hearing about how a recent communication graduate got into a digital editing career,” said Kesler Berry, senior communication major.Pamplin College's FutureFest was coordinated by Martha Ginn, who had help running the event from the Pamplin Ambassadors.The alumni had a luncheon with Pamplin administrators, including Dean Elna Green, and department chairs before the event.
