Staff report |Tiger Woods won his first professional golf tournament in more than five years with victory at the Tour Championship on Sunday, Sept. 23 at East Point Golf Club in Atlanta. Just a year ago, Woods was recovering from his fourth back surgery. He did not return to competition until December and was ranked No. 1,199 in the world at the time. After his win on Sunday, he is now ranked No. 13. It was his 80th PGA victory; he has 40 victories in European Tour play. Woods finished second in the Fedex Cup standings behind World No. 1 Justin Rose, who took home the $10 million bonus. Woods was 11 under par, two shots ahead of Billy Horschel and four ahead of Dustin Johnson. Woods, who earned $1.62 million, won the tournament with a blazing front nine in the third round when he had six birdies in seven holes. He led by as many as five on Sunday. In other sports news:
