By Madison Brown |Editor in ChiefA white male was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon, May 22 on the Health Sciences campus by Augusta University employees after the man followed an AU female employee from a parking lot to her office in Professional Building 1 , according to University Police.The subject followed the employee to her car in Parking Lot No. 3 while making sexual comments to her and asked for money.The subject then chased the employee back to her office in Professional Building 1, where she screamed and he was then detained by other AU employees until campus police arrived."Community safety is the highest priority at Augusta University and is core to the Augusta University Police Department," Police Chief James C. Lyon Jr. wrote in an email about the incident.Lyon said that the incident was unusual for AU."This kind of behavior is abnormal for our university," he said. "We always recommend using the buddy system or calling our escort service if you need to feel safe. If you’re out late at night and don’t feel comfortable, we’ll be happy to get an officer to you."The RAVE Guardian app is also a good choice. Safety for students is a shared responsibility."An alert sent out by the Public Safety Division urged all students and employees to use the "buddy" system to assure that they are not walking anywhere alone or to call University Police if they need to be escorted to their vehicles.
